Subject: right way to handle not-authorized
When I send the wrong password I receive <failure xmlns="run:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl"><not-authorized/></failure>

Is there an Event for this? Or what is the right way to detect the authorization failure.

yes there is the OnAuthError event.
Look also in the C# MiniClient example how to handle the AuthError.

I was looking in the WM5 mini client and didn't see it. I knew it had to be in the SDK someplace, thanks for pointing it out.
